Asheville Relocation October 19, 2011

In the "dark wood" of mid-life as Dante so aptly describes it, I was catapaulted by forces of change that turned out to be genies.  I understood that I had the opportunity to recognize the seismic shifts that were taking place inside me, that I must take an abrupt turn off the path I had followed for the last 25 years.  I wanted to live my life from the inside out, rather than the outside in.  I decided to choose where to live, to follow Joseph Campbell's "bliss" in a literal way, rather than simply incorporating Campbell into the cerebral world of my doctoral dissertation. I moved to Asheville, North Carolina, city built on crystalline rock deposits in an ancient string of mountains.  It is a place in which the metaphysical and the artistic are revered, where people seem happier than in other places.  My jazz composer husband, who loves it here, and I are about to move into a log cabin in the woods where black bears are as ordinary as golden ..... read more
